Global efforts to increase HIV treatment have lowered viral levels and transmission rates worldwide. However, there are still pockets of infection, showing the importance of good prevention strategies. In Africa, the focus is on protecting young people who are at risk of HIV. The need for more funding makes it crucial to strengthen prevention methods to fight HIV effectively.

Blantyre District in Malawi is where they began testing a better way to prevent HIV. This funding helps them find new ways to deliver effective HIV prevention programs by working with government leaders, civil society, health providers, and partners like PEPFAR and Global Fund. They aim to create models that can improve HIV prevention in the area.

The Blantyre Prevention Strategy was collaboratively developed with the Malawian government, local stakeholders, and global partners to enhance HIV prevention efforts in Blantyre. This strategic initiative has brought significant improvements to address HIV prevention in the rapidly expanding urban district of Blantyre, which is home to a population of about a million individuals.
